RippleX is preparing one of the most significant upgrades to the XRP Ledger (XRPL) in recent years, with Head of Product Jazzi Cooper outlining a suite of new features designed to accelerate institutional adoption of tokenized assets.
According to Cooper, the upcoming xrpld 3.3.0 software release will introduce five proposed protocol amendments, including zero-knowledge (ZK)-powered privacy for Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPTs), atomic batch settlement, permission delegation, sponsored transaction fees, and dynamic token functionality. The features are intended to improve privacy, settlement efficiency, and compliance capabilities for banks, asset managers, and enterprise users.
“XRPL has already proven it can support tokenized assets at scale. Now it’s time to put these assets to use: global transfers, trading, collateralizing, and settling,” Cooper said while announcing the proposed amendments.
Zero-Knowledge Privacy Comes to Tokenized Assets
One of the headline additions in xrpld 3.3.0 is Confidential MPT (Multi-Purpose Tokens), which introduces native privacy for tokenized assets using elliptic-curve cryptography and zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs).
The feature is designed to conceal token balances and transfer amounts on the public ledger while allowing designated parties—such as regulators, auditors, or compliance officers—to verify transactions when required.
RippleX says this approach addresses one of the biggest barriers preventing financial institutions from adopting public blockchain infrastructure: maintaining transaction confidentiality while meeting regulatory reporting obligations.
Atomic Batch Settlement for Institutional Transactions
Another major enhancement is the proposed Batch amendment, which enables atomic batch settlement across multiple accounts.
Under the proposal, several related transactions can execute together within a single ledger update. Either every transaction succeeds or the entire batch fails, reducing settlement risk for complex financial operations.
The functionality is expected to support delivery-versus-payment (DvP) workflows, securities settlement, collateral transfers, and other institutional processes that require synchronized execution across multiple participants.
Role-Based Access Controls Through Permission Delegation
RippleX is also introducing Permission Delegation, effectively providing role-based access controls for institutional users.
Instead of sharing private keys across departments, organizations will be able to assign narrowly defined transaction permissions to employees or automated systems while maintaining custody of master signing keys.
The feature is intended to improve operational security by separating treasury, trading, compliance, and asset issuance responsibilities without exposing critical credentials.
Sponsored Fees Aim to Simplify User Onboarding
The proposed Sponsored Fees and Reserves amendment would allow banks, fintech platforms, and token issuers to cover XRP transaction fees and account reserve requirements on behalf of users.
According to RippleX, this removes one of the biggest onboarding obstacles for new participants, who would no longer need to acquire XRP before creating and using an XRPL account.
The feature is expected to improve the user experience for enterprise tokenization platforms and consumer-facing blockchain applications.
Dynamic Multi-Purpose Tokens Add Flexibility
The fifth proposal, Dynamic MPT, would give token issuers greater flexibility by allowing selected token properties—such as metadata or transfer fees—to be modified after issuance without creating an entirely new asset.
This capability could simplify lifecycle management for tokenized securities, bonds, funds, and other real-world assets whose terms may evolve over time.
Validator Approval Still Required
Although the xrpld 3.3.0 software release is expected soon, the proposed features will not activate automatically.
Like all XRP Ledger protocol amendments, each proposal must receive support from at least 80% of trusted validators for two consecutive weeks before becoming part of the network.
RippleX emphasized that the decentralized validator community—not Ripple—ultimately determines whether the amendments are adopted.
Why the Upgrade Matters
The proposed enhancements arrive as competition intensifies among public blockchains seeking to become the preferred infrastructure for tokenized real-world assets (RWAs).
Institutional investors increasingly require privacy, programmable compliance, efficient settlement, and enterprise-grade permission controls before deploying tokenized securities on public networks.
By integrating zero-knowledge privacy, atomic settlement, and institutional governance tools directly into the XRP Ledger, RippleX aims to strengthen XRPL’s position as a blockchain for regulated financial applications and large-scale asset tokenization.
Key Takeaways
