Brazilian cryptocurrency exchange Mercado Bitcoin has expanded its digital asset offerings by adding support for SUI, USDC and USDsui, becoming the first exchange in Brazil to support asset transfers through the Sui blockchain network.
Announced on October 29, 2026, the integration gives Mercado Bitcoin’s approximately 4.5 million clients access to buying, selling, sending and receiving the three digital assets through the Sui network.
The development is part of a broader collaboration between Mercado Bitcoin, Mysten Labs and the Sui Foundation aimed at expanding blockchain-based financial services in Brazil. Beyond cryptocurrency transfers, the partnership includes plans involving Bitcoin-backed lending infrastructure and the migration of Mercado Bitcoin’s tokenized real-world asset (RWA) platform to Sui.
The announcement represents an important expansion of Sui’s presence in Latin America, providing the blockchain ecosystem with access to an established Brazilian cryptocurrency platform.
Mercado Bitcoin Opens Sui Network Access to 4.5 Million Clients
According to the Sui Foundation and Mercado Bitcoin, the exchange has introduced support for three assets within its platform:
- SUI: The native cryptocurrency of the Sui blockchain, used within its network and ecosystem.
- USDC: A U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Circle and available on multiple blockchain networks, including Sui.
- USDsui: Also known as Sui Dollar, a dollar-denominated stablecoin within the Sui ecosystem.
The integration allows customers to move these assets directly through the Sui network instead of limiting their activity to internal exchange balances.
Mercado Bitcoin said Brazilian customers can also use Pix, the country’s instant payment system, to deposit Brazilian reais and convert them into supported digital assets.
The exchange described the integration as the first time a Brazilian cryptocurrency exchange has enabled transfers of Sui-based assets through the network.
USDsui Becomes Collateral for Mercado Bitcoin Lending Products
One of the immediate practical features of the integration is the addition of USDsui as collateral within Mercado Bitcoin’s lending products.
This allows eligible customers to use their dollar-denominated digital assets as collateral when accessing credit rather than necessarily selling their holdings to obtain liquidity.
Using cryptocurrency as loan collateral has become an increasingly important feature of digital asset platforms. It allows investors to maintain exposure to an asset while accessing funds, although borrowing introduces additional risks, including collateral valuation changes and potential liquidation.
Mercado Bitcoin’s decision to support USDsui as collateral also gives the stablecoin a financial use case beyond transfers and trading.
The availability of this feature could help connect Sui’s stablecoin ecosystem with Brazil’s established digital asset market.
Mercado Bitcoin and Sui Explore Bitcoin Lending Through Hashi
The partnership also includes plans to explore an integration with Hashi, Sui’s Bitcoin-focused financial infrastructure.
Hashi is designed to support Bitcoin-related financial applications, including lending and borrowing. Its intended functionality would allow Bitcoin holders to use their BTC in financial products without necessarily selling the underlying asset.
Mercado Bitcoin is studying how Hashi could be incorporated into its existing lending products.
The proposed integration could eventually provide customers with additional options for using Bitcoin as collateral within lending and borrowing services.
However, this initiative remains under exploration. Mercado Bitcoin has stated that any future product would be subject to its internal governance procedures and applicable Brazilian regulations. No new Hashi-based lending product has been made available through this announcement.
Mercado Bitcoin Plans to Bring Its Tokenized Assets to Sui
Another major part of the collaboration involves Mercado Bitcoin’s existing tokenization business.
The exchange plans to bring its tokenized real-world asset platform to the Sui blockchain. According to the company’s announcement, Mercado Bitcoin has issued more than 800 tokenized assets since 2019.
These assets include:
- Receivables
- Structured credit instruments
- Consortium quotas
- Real estate-related assets
Real-world asset tokenization involves representing financial or physical asset rights through blockchain-based digital tokens. It can support fractional ownership, digital recordkeeping and the development of secondary markets, depending on the structure of each product.
Moving its tokenized asset platform to Sui could expand the blockchain infrastructure supporting Mercado Bitcoin’s existing business.
The company has emphasized that its tokenization activities operate within Brazil’s regulatory framework, including applicable requirements overseen by the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM).
No specific migration completion date was announced.
Why Brazil Is Important for Sui’s Expansion
Brazil has become an important market for cryptocurrency adoption and blockchain-based financial services in Latin America.
Mercado Bitcoin’s established customer base provides Sui with access to millions of potential users through an existing exchange infrastructure.
The partnership also connects Sui with Brazil’s Pix payment system, potentially creating a more direct connection between traditional currency deposits and blockchain-based assets.
Mercado Bitcoin operates under regulatory authorizations in Brazil and Europe, including authorization from the Central Bank of Brazil as a payment institution and registration as a securities broker with the CVM.
Roberto Dagnoni, chairman of Mercado Bitcoin and CEO of its parent company 2TM, highlighted the importance of bringing Sui to the exchange’s existing infrastructure.
Mysten Labs co-founder and Chief Product Officer Adeniyi Abiodun also described Brazil as an important market for Sui’s next phase of growth.
The collaboration reflects a broader strategy of connecting blockchain networks with established financial platforms rather than relying exclusively on decentralized applications to attract users.
What the Mercado Bitcoin Integration Means for SUI
The integration provides Sui with additional distribution through one of Brazil’s major cryptocurrency exchanges.
Access to Mercado Bitcoin’s reported 4.5 million clients could increase awareness and accessibility of SUI and other assets operating on the network.
The support for USDC and USDsui is also significant because stablecoins are widely used for digital payments, transfers and financial applications.
Meanwhile, the potential migration of tokenized assets and future Bitcoin lending integration could expand Sui’s role beyond cryptocurrency trading.
However, the number of exchange clients should not be confused with the number of active Sui users. The integration does not guarantee that all Mercado Bitcoin customers will use the network or that SUI will experience increased demand.
Actual adoption will depend on customer activity, liquidity, product availability and the successful execution of the partnership’s longer-term plans.
Bottom Line
Mercado Bitcoin has become the first Brazilian exchange to support asset transfers through the Sui network, introducing SUI, USDC and USDsui access for its approximately 4.5 million clients.
The integration also allows USDsui to be used as collateral in lending products, while future plans include exploring Hashi-based Bitcoin financing and bringing Mercado Bitcoin’s tokenized real-world asset platform to Sui.
For Sui, the partnership offers a significant distribution opportunity in Brazil. For Mercado Bitcoin, it represents another step toward expanding its blockchain infrastructure and digital financial services.
Although the initial asset support is available, the planned Bitcoin lending and tokenized asset expansion remain separate initiatives that will depend on further development and regulatory requirements.
